Rapha Healthcare is built, standing and secure in Bo District, southern Sierra Leone. It still needs power, water and fixtures before it can open its doors.
Why this one
Most hospitals asking for donated medical equipment cannot actually receive it. There is nowhere secure to put it, no route through customs, nobody on the ground to sign for it — and equipment that cannot be landed is not help.
Rapha can receive a shipping container today. The buildings are up, there is secure indoor storage on site, and in December 2023 the hospital brought a forty-foot container of donated equipment through the port at Freetown and 250 kilometers inland to Bo District. It has done this before, with its own people, and has the paperwork to show it.
Where it stands today
Rapha Healthcare is registered with the Government of Sierra Leone, registration SL070519JABAK05521, and is operated by Jabakah Healthcare Ltd.
It is not yet treating patients. The application for its operating license is with the government and has not yet been issued. Only a handful of beds are in use. Rapha aims to open in November 2026.
What we are raising: finish the building
Power. Electrical. Ceiling. Water. Fixtures. The work that sits between a building that stands and a building that can treat someone.
That is the hospital's own estimate, given to us in August 2026. We have asked for it broken down item by item, and we will publish that here when we have it.

Where this sits in the whole project
Rapha is being built in three phases. This appeal completes the first one. We are not asking you to build a hospital.
Reception, outpatients, consultation, theatres, pharmacy, diagnostics, rehabilitation, 25 admission beds, kitchen and laundry. This is what the $52,000 finishes.
Four floors connected to the first: 30 more inpatient beds, maternity rooms, labs, offices, a resource development centre, and accommodation for volunteers.
Additional medical equipment, more medical and non-medical volunteers, and a broader scope of care: health education, community outreach, orthopaedic surgery.

The other half: fill the building
A hospital also needs beds, an ultrasound, an X-ray machine, lab analyzers, an operating table and surgical sets. Those do not come from a donation page. They come from hospitals replacing their own equipment, and from the organizations that move medical surplus around the world.
What we need for this half is not money. It is an introduction. One email from someone who already knows the person on the other end opens a door that a cold approach from a small foundation does not.
Most people read the list below and find nothing. Then one person stops at a line and says actually, my neighbor does that. That single name is worth more to this project than a year of small donations.
You do not have to make the case for us. Ask them first — never pass on someone's details without permission. Then send us the name and how you know them, and we take it from there. We will tell you what happened, either way.

One thing that does not help
Please do not collect medical supplies at home, or post anything to Sierra Leone. Household collections get turned away and parcels get held at customs. Institutional surplus is what works — which is why the list above matters so much. If you have goods to offer, tell us first and let us check whether they can be landed.
What we will not promise
The hospital opens with what it has and equips over time. Anyone who tells you otherwise is guessing.
The route is not settled and the freight is not priced. When we know, we will publish it.
We do not have one yet. We are looking, and we will say so plainly when that changes.
When this closes
We will publish what was raised, what it paid for, and what it did not reach — including if the honest answer is that this went nowhere. That report is written before the first ask, not after the last one.
